Overland cuts jobs

As expected, Overland Storage has been forced to make some drastic cuts in the wake of losing two major OEM customers: HP and Dell. The company announced it has laid off 54 employees, or 14% of its workforce, in the second round of job cuts. Here’s a story that includes a response from the CEO on how the company hopes to pick up the pieces.

  1. That’s disappointing. Overland Storage has always filled in interesting product niche for my environment. I think HP and Dell are missing out.

  2. I agree. As a reseller of Overland’s NEO tape libraries, I can attest to their unbeatable performance, flexibility and value.

They offered features ahead of their (and their competition’s) time like native fiber drives and stacking robotics. But now that ADIC/Quantum’s libraries offer these same features, I guess Dell and HP feel the need to bed up with a more marque name.

  3. HP is still selling overland drives - the MSL5000 and MSL6000 series.
